Joseph John Westhoff, born on August 10, 1927, was called home on October 15, 2018. He was the devoted husband of Flora Joan (Trapp) Westhoff for over 67 years and loving father to Joseph A. Westhoff (Marie), Joan Donahue (Jerry), James Westhoff (Micheline), Judith Berman (Lou), John Westhoff (Kelly), and Jeanne Schlussel (Steve). He was blessed with 18 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 more on their way.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Joe was the eldest son of Joseph and Barbara (Gengler) Westhoff. As a young man, he served as a member of the Army Air Corps in peacekeeping efforts at the end of the Second World War.
Joe moved with his family to Pennsylvania in 1959. A decade later, he cofounded Atlantic Concrete Products with his partner, Jack Ditcher. Their business eventually grew to include multiple precast concrete companies, as well as A-LOK Products and Vertex Inc.
When not working, Joe enjoyed golfing and was a longtime member of North Hills Country Club, where he competed in and won several team and individual championships.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Mary Dietrich, Rose Merz, and Elizabeth Pavone, and brother John Westhoff, as well as his grandson James A. Kelly, Jr. He is survived by his brother Paul Westhoff, sister Jane Schmidt, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Years ago, Joe’s granddaughter Jaclyn described him with the following words .

The Janitor’s Son
Born to a janitor and his wife in 1927,
God sent them a son straight from heaven.
Even though they were poor,
So much love was in store.
“Penny a paper,” was his cry,
And then many would buy.
Cleaning chicken coops for ten cents an hour,
From hard work he would never cower.
Quit school at sixteen,
To work amidst the railroad steam.
To feed and clothe his family were the reasons,
Here indeed was a man for all seasons.
In his life he did succeed,
And looked out for others’ needs.
By his hard work his dream came true,
My Grandfather, I wish you knew.
