Obituary for Nicholas C. Russo

Nicholas C. Russo
Nicholas C. Russo, 85, of Abington, P.A., died peacefully on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Majestic Oaks Healthcare Center following a brief illness.

Nicholas, affectionately known to many as "Nick at Nite", was born on August 10, 1932 to Yolanda (nee Christopher) and Charles Russo and spent much of his childhood in Atlantic City, New Jersey. His family moved to Philadelphia when Nick was a teenager, where his lifelong passions for sports - particularly baseball - and music began to bloom. Nick was forced to quit school at age 15 and worked as a runner in a paper box factory to help provide for his struggling family. H remained there for 10 years before becoming employed as a warehouse worker for the A & P Company. Shortly afterwards, he met his wife of 55 years, Kathleen "Kass" (nee Callanan) at The Adriatic Dance Club in Port Richmond. Kass and Nick moved to Abington in 1961 and raised a family of five children. During this time, Mr. Russo spent 10 years coaching for the Roslyn Athletic Association and won many championships, often treating his team to Gino's for burgers and fries or Seven-Eleven slurpees and soft pre
tzels.

Nick continued his occupation as a warehouse worker until he retired (from ACME) at age 62 in 1994. He threw himself fully into his retirement years joining the Thunderbird Bowling League, Senior Softball League, Knights of Columbus Pinochle League, and many, many nights of singing the likes of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin at karaoke wherever and whenever he could. Nicholas was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen in 2016, and will be greatly missed by his five children, Daniel, Patrick, Timothy, Katie, and Kellyanne; his ten grandchildren, Michelle, Nicole, T.J., Steven, Peyton, Antonio, Vinny, Sonny, Mason, and Liam; and many friends and acquaintances within the community. He is also survived by two brothers, Charles and Joseph, many nieces and nephews, and will be mostly remembered for his kind heart, friendly smile, and fun-loving attitude towards life.
