Obituary for Susan Doodan

Susan Eileen (Grimmer) Doodan had persevered with optimism and dignity after a diagnosis of pancreatic/lung cancer for 18 months. She passed from this life on the morning of Nov. 5, 2013, at home as she had wished, with her mother and husband by her side. It was a bright, sunny day when it was no longer a struggle to breathe. She was 64
She was the loving wife for 43 years of Dennis Doodan.
Susan graduated from Temple University in 1971 with a Bachelors degree in Secondary Education, and later from Arcadia University with a Masters degree in Computer Science. She taught middle school math for eight years at Huntingdon Junior in Abington and 25 years at Council Rock at Holland Jr. High. She was Math Department Chair for many years and brought innovation to the curriculum. An elaborate and humor retirement party in 2004 capped her professional career. She never stopped learning new things, reading, playing bridge, shopping, traveling and volunteering.
After her diagnosis in April 2012, she received wonderful on-going support from our families, her life-long friends, Council Rock associates (both retired and those still teaching and our Canadian “relatives” in Florida. Her spiritual support was of great comfort to us by way of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and also by home visits by a wonderful member of Steven Ministry. The chemo nurses were kind and caring both here and in Largo, Fla. Abington Hospice also did a wonderful job in meeting Suzy’s increasing needs.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday Dec. 7 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2086 Parkview Ave., Abington, PA 19001.
In lieu of flowers, please make a generous donation in Suzy’s memory to Philabundance, 3616 South Galloway St. Phila, PA 19148 or www.philadundance.org; or to St. Paul’s Steven Ministry, 301 Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901.
