Michael F.  Rafferty
Michael F. Rafferty, D.O., a family physician and 20 year resident of Huntingdon Valley passed away February 24, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, he was 51. Born in Darby, PA he was raised in Drexel Hill and Phila., PA by his parents Dr. Bernard F. and the late Mary (Nee McDermott) Rafferty. Dr. Rafferty graduated from LaSalle College in 1982, where he played trombone in the pep and jazz bands, and the Osteopathic Medical School of Kansas City, MO in 1986. He served his internship at Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, NY and completed his residency at Temple University Hospital. Dr. Rafferty joined Scotch Brook Medical Center in NE Phila., in 1990 where he practiced family medicine. He later moved his private practice to Holy Redeemer Hospital in 2003.

A devoted husband and father, Michael enjoyed spending time at home, playing video games, watching the Phillies and Doctor Who. He served as a mentor to the Firebirds robotics team at Mount St. Joseph Academy and attended his children’s many swim meets. His hobbies included working with Macintosh computers and riding his bike in the M.S. City to Shore Bike Ride.

Mr. Rafferty is the beloved husband to Erica (Nee Sztukowski) and loving father of Elizabeth, Miranda, and Christopher Rafferty. He is the son of Dr. Bernard F. (Vonnie) and the late Mary (Nee McDermott) Rafferty. He is also survived by his two sisters; Mary Margaret Rafferty (Bill Kane) and Bonnie Koerner, D.O. (Steve D.O.). Uncle of Jennifer Kanne, Mary and Sarah Koerner.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Tues. eve. 6-8 pm at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 1500 Old York Rd. Abington and Wed. 9:30 to 10:15 am at St. Albert of the Great Church, 212 Welsh Rd. Huntingdon Valley followed by funeral Mass at 10:30 am Int. Holy Sepulchre Cem. In lieu of flowers contributions to the Educational Fund for Rafferty Children, C/O PFFCU, 901 Arch St. Phila, PA 19107 would be appreciated by the family.
